Riverboat crewmembers celebrate New Year on board

Riverboat crew members ushered in 2018 on board the chartered vessel, the Andante, which is currently berthed in the Netherlands. Due to the cancellation of the Mission Net conference at the end of December 2017, crew members arrived on board ahead of schedule and began their time of bonding and orientation before the start of ministry.

The eve of New Year’s Day began with a talent show, when crew members shared laughter over traditional, musical and comical performances. Later in the night, OM Founder George Verwer, who had just arrived on board, joined the party and addressed the crew formally. He encouraged the crew with Scriptures from 1 Corinthians, which spoke of being “steadfast and immovable,” and consecrated the vessel for God’s purposes. It was an emotional moment for Project Director Ray Strong*, who was on board with his family and had overseen the project since mid 2015. Crew members then scattered all across the boat to pray for every space on board to be used for God’s glory.

At midnight, Captain Klass Kattouw raised his glass and wished crew members a "Happy New Year." Fireworks went off all around the neighbourhood; crew members were delighted at the fascinating display, an uncommon sight for many.

Please pray that God’s light will shine in Europe and beyond, and not just for a fleeting moment like the fireworks’ bright brilliance.
