We offer two STEP opportunities: STEP On Board will let you taste life at sea on one of the ship while STEP On Shore will keep your feet dry as you serve in a vital support role at our Ministry Center in South Carolina, USA.
Experience life on one of the ships for yourself with this short programme of service.
Living in a large multicultural community is both a rewarding experience and a challenge. You may be sharing a cabin with up to nine other people, and will have limited space and privacy. However, you will find great opportunities within this to build deep friendships, and, as well, to interact with local people in port communities, both informally and through organised programmes and teams.
You will work eight hours a day, five days a week in one of our primary work departments, such as the galley/pantry (kitchen), cleaning or bookfair teams. While work clothes and training will be provided on board, you will need to bring along willing hands to serve wherever you are needed! Along with a five day work week, a sixth day is designated for ministry or training opportunities.
Our hope is that every person on board deepens their relationship with God, and learns how to apply and share their faith in a relevant way. You will participate in the community training time, such as morning devotions, study groups and prayer times. As well, you will have access to training and resources.

If you're not sure about life on the sea, you can also serve on shore at the OM Ships Ministry Center in Florence, South Carolina, USA.
During this programme participants will:
This STEP opportunity is ideal for those with little or no prior experience and provides a unique insight into the ministry of OM Ships from a shore-based, support environment.
STEP participants receive orientation and training to serve alongside the volunteers at the Literature Ministry Center – receiving, sorting and packing literature for the ship book fairs, for sale on the internet or for shipping in bulk to book stores around the world.
STEP On Shore will be both enriching and challenging. Participants work with the local OM Ships team Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 5:00pm. Lunch is provided each weekday, but you will be responsible for other meals. You will also participate in devotions, prayer times and other team events.
Evenings and weekends are times off for participants, but there are often invitations from team members or others in the community for fellowship, meals, and activities.
The OM Ships US campus has onsite accommodation and nearby apartments. These facilities are well equipped with living areas, kitchen and laundry facilities, internet access, and bedrooms shared by guests of the same gender.
