Many professional seafarers would like to serve with OM Ships but are unable to raise sufficient support to come and are dependent on an income to financially support their families.
The Seafarers Fund focuses mainly on those from developing countries and enables us to sponsor and support:
- Qualified seafarers who are essential for the operation, maintenance, repair and upgrading work needed on board our ships.
- The training and development of those serving on board who are considering a career at sea as a Deck or Engine officer.
- The training and development of those who have started training in their home country as Deck or Engine officers, and who want to further their career with a period of service on one of our ships.
As well as serving in their professional capacity, participants benefit from the leadership development programme, teachings on board and training in sharing their faith.
Donations to the Seafarers Fund will be used for selected seafarers to help cover items such as travel and training costs, personal expenses and shortfalls in personal support.
The selection of seafarers is at the discretion of the Human Resource Services Division in OM Ships in consultation with the respective OM office.
